Exploring West Yellowstone....July 7th - 10th, 2022 - Beryl and Mammoth Hot Springs. Part 1

Mammoth Hot Springs are near the North Entrance to Yellowstone (near Gardiner, Montana). These hot springs are a must-see feature of Yellowstone National Park in part because they’re so different from other thermal areas in the area. This was well worth the drive!
Travertine formations grow as hot water rises through limestone, large quantities of rock are dissolved by the hot water, and a white chalky mineral is deposited on the surface.
Walking around Mammoth Springs terrace loop.
Next stop - drove toward the Northern entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs.
More wildlife sightings after leaving Beryl Spring.
Awesome to get up and close to this turquois blue hot spring, right next to the boardwalk.
BERYL SPRING - One of the hottest springs in Yellowstone, averaging 196 °F. Beryl Spring was named by the U.S Geological Survey. Hague party in 1883 for the blue-green color which reminded a party member of the gemstone beryl.
Elk spotting not long after entering the West gate.
This was the kids first visit into Yellowstone on this trip due to the north entrance closure and lack of time near the East entrance from Cody, Wyoming.
